DIY#FASHION#FASHION WEEK#ACCESSORIES THAT ARRESTED ATTENTION AT NEW YORK

STELLAR ACCESSORIES THAT ARRESTED THE RUNWAY AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Bags, shoes and jewellery! Each designer added their design personality to the accessories showcased at New York Fashion Week. While few played it safe--focusing more on the apparel, others went bolder and bigger with unusual concoctions. Below, our edit of the accessories that allowed us a double-take…

Altuzarra on tassel bags
Tassels continue to win hearts and critics, albeit with a sleek intervention from the classics.  As boho becomes bygone, tassels this time around chose to charm up the foolproof boxy silhouettes on variations such as satchels and hobos- all on a backdrop of neutral and earthy hues.

Tome on ware earrings
Organic inspired statement earrings in silver metal, dramatically complemented the sleek collection of luxury silhouettes. What was impressive was the shoulder dusting length of the lightweight accessory that beautifully stood out from the background of black ensembles.

Vera Wang on chunky mules
Heels are back, but with bare backs. It was a rebirth of the mules at the Vera Wang show. In a hint of tractor soles and heels, the style had a moment on the runway with black leather snakeskin sheen lending a classic edge to the bold, tall shoe. They certainly got our seal of approval.

Rodarte on nostalgic hand harnesses
Vintage goth and 70’s romanticism defines Rodarte’s take on hand harness. Soft glam-rock while staying beautifully feminine, the piece is an interpretation of pure art jewellery from the 70’s that was opulent, bold and unexpected, all at the same time.

Kate Spade on teapot bags
Kate Spade’s teapot bag was cute, adorable and pretty. The striking blue and white contrast lends it a beautiful fairytale touch while making it literally everyone’s cup of tea.

DIY#FASHION#SIMPLE HAIRSTYLES FOR THE MONSOON N SUMMER SEASON

STAY BEAUTIFUL WITH LRT—SIMPLE HAIRSTYLES FOR THE MONSOON SEASON

With the rains finally gracing us, it’s time our hairdos got an upgrade too! Because it is a task maintaining lustrous hair and keeping the frizz out during this season (with all the raindrops falling on your head), make sure you have the appropriate products (serums, oils etc.) and tress tools before you begin experimenting with these hairstyles for the monsoon season…

With a careful spritz of a sea salt spray, weave the product lightly within your hair to create a tousled, beach-like hairdo. We recommend using a pair of hot tongs to set the messy waves in place. For a night-time touch, use some hair glitter and mist to create a mermaid-inspired ’do.

This is the easiest hairstyle of the lot, and very rainy day appropriate! Play around with (Dutch or) French styles to create your braid; remember to use avolume-building serum or spray before to make sure your braid is full and so that flyaways will stay in place. (You will need a couple of bobby pins and hair-ties for this look!)

Delicate, feminine and completely fuss-free, try this look for the office. While it is rustic, it’s also great to sport with chiffon shirts and cigarette skirts particularly when you’re at work. It’s formal but not formidable! Feel free to experiment by using embellished bobby pins to weave within this style or even those Chanel-inspired pearl pins from last season etc.

A look made popular but none other than the sultry Kim Kardashian, the slicked back look is an edgy hairstyle to try during this season! You will, of course, require a careful application of body-building serum and some gel-based hair spray for the look to stay put. You can also achieve a different version of this look with some wet gel and hairpins (like Sonam Kapoor’s above) and you know what? It’s a most perfect, svelte look for those rainy evenings when you’re making an appearance at a swanky nightclub (pair this hairdo with dark hues and/or lots of sequins - when it comes to attire).

diy#REFRESH YOUR FASHION WITH LONGLINE CARDIGAN

REFRESH YOUR FASHION WITH LONGLINE CARDIGANS

Who doesn’t love cardi-weather? Especially and possibly only because it allows us to reinitiate the art of layering. With comfort and style in tow, longline cardigans are making a comeback. Check out our detailed guide below that will help you layer like a pro.

Play with lengths
We love the whole idea of contrast in lengths. When worn with a pair of short-shorts it bubbles up some drama and makes your outfit instantly street style chic. Mix up colours and patterns or combine two plain solid hues to lengthen your frame.

A little fun with crop tops
Wide hips giving you the blues? The perfect way to dress crop tops to your frame is by throwing over a long cardigan. Don’t forget heels for an arresting finish.

Asymmetrical hemlines giving us thrills
Merge fluidity and structure by going for an asymmetrical cardigan and wearing it with a fitted structured dress. Works well for ladies with height, but don’t forget to accessorise with a chunky neckpiece for a complete and polished look.

Combine varied fabrics for a class in mixology
Combine multiple fabrics such as wool, linen and cotton for a rich and infused outfit. And to maintain an effortless and relaxed look without getting distracted, keep your colour palette neutral.

Belt up some style
To look well put together wear a belt over your cardigan especially for office occasions. Remember to opt for a luxurious looking leather or suede belt to avoid looking drab.

TOP TRENDS FROM LONDON FASHION WEEK : SPRING 2016

The recently concluded London Fashion week had presentations from all the major global and British designers and we scoured through the collections to bring you the top trends straight from the runway.

The Spring collections were anything but somber with lots of prints and colour, especially yellow, on display. There was a retro feel to several collections, especially the 1990s (hello chokers!) and of course, the abundant use of flowers. It’s spring after all!

While Milan Fashion Week is currently underway, here we bring you the top trends from London Fashion Week.

Brights: Acid toned colours were seen at Christopher Kane while the Emilia Wickstead collection was a mixture of florals and brights (both big trends for spring 2016). Other designers that showed off brights were Jonathan Saunders, Issa, Burberry, Mary Katrantzou, Antonio Berardi and Templerley London.

Chokers: These made a comeback last year (mostly thanks to Rihanna & Ariana Grande popularizing all things 90s). For spring 2016, several designers including J.W. Anderson, Issa and Maison Margiela used chokers.

Retro 1970s and Graphic Prints: Both of these go hand in hand as the 70s were famous for the use of big, bold prints. For spring, both matching and clashing prints were seen on the runways at Peter Pilotto, Jonathan Saunders, Vivian Westwood, Anya Hindmarch and Temperly London.

Florals: Flowers are perfect for spring and were seen at Burberry, Markus Lupfer, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Topshop Unique and Emilia Wickstead.

DIY#LIFESTYLE#WEDDING TIOS FOR NEW BRIDES#HOW TO KEEP COOL

LIFESTYLE: WEDDING APPROACHING? HERE’S HOW TO KEEP YOUR COOL AND NOT TURN INTO BRIDEZILLA!

Weddings are no cake walk, especially if it is your own! It isn’t easy to manage all the bookings, caterers, guest list, yourtrousseau, the pressure to get everything right and most of all the anxiety! Brides, we totally understand your plight, the butterflies in the stomach and the nervousness. But all said and done, you can’t afford to be stressed before your big day. So brides-to-be breathe easy and read on as we tell you just how to keep the wedding stress at bay.

Work on a realistic schedule
Start well in time and work out a realistic timeline depending on the kind of wedding you are planning. If you intend to have a lavish wedding, start at least ten months in advance. Divide tasks, delegate responsibilities and get done with most of your running around at least a couple of months in advance. So you have the buffer time in hand in case things don’t turn out the way you’d planned.

Breathe easy, meditate
So your mother-in-law is driving you nuts with all those customary ceremonies, she insists you have? Are you overwhelmed with the life changing decision you have just made? Whatever your case, you need to de-stress and calm your nerves. Do this with meditation. Find yourself an hour a day and spend it with yourself. It might seem futile at first, but over time it will help you deal with the madness.

Keep your fiancé in the loop
This goes without saying. Keeping your man in the loop about all the wedding planning and arrangements will not only divide the stress and responsibility but will also prove to be a great stress buster.

Pamper yourself silly
A bridal spa regime, massages, facials, manicures and pedicures; all put together can work wonders for your stress levels. You are the bride, make sure you indulge, pamper yourself and allow all that stress to melt away.

Get in shape
Eat well and eat right. You obviously want to look your best on your big day. So while you are taking every care to make things look their possible best don’t neglect your health. Exercise, run and jog out all that stress, you will realise it helps a great deal.
Don’t micro-manage
It’s is alright to be nervous and anxious about your wedding but don’t take upon yourself the responsibility to do everything. Delegate tasks and share the burden, what are friends and family for? And more importantly delete the word ‘perfect’ from your dictionary. Not everything needs to be perfect, it just needs to be right and you will be fine. Smile!

DIY#LIFESTYLE:#LRT DIARIES # IS THIS THE END OF REALITY TELEVISION?#STORY REVEALING BEHIND IT

LIFESTYLE: LRT DIARIES - IS THIS THE END OF REALITY TELEVISION?

Analyse this – The queen of reality television, who has had every bit of her life “scripted or otherwise” on display for the world to see opted out of televising her wedding to Kanye West citing claims of privacy. Huh? Which leads us to ask the question – Is this the end of reality television? Is this end of flash, of bling, of OTT? There were stark differences between the first and second (or second and third) nuptial celebrations of Kim Kardashian. Here is a summation of our astute observations.

For starters, the first celebrity wedding was televised while the second was not, indicating a tired and strained relationship with the camera.

Kim’s dress in the first celebrity wedding was largely princess aspirational and all about fantasy, along with the “it’s my day, look at me” syndrome, whereas the Givenchy dress worn by Kim on her second reality try was tasteful, elegant and downright graceful.

The first reality wedding seemed like it was more about the event and television ratings, whereas the second seems like it is has a lot more meaning (hopefully) and is all about the actual symbolism of the ceremony.

In the first case, even the honeymoon was on display – bikinis, PDA and all, whereas the second time round, it was all about quality time in the country side with no cameras in tow.

So, if Kim Kardashian realises the importance of privacy and asks for it, does that mean the world is to follow? I guess, if top notch celebrities like Leonardo di Caprio and Beyonce are averse to attending your wedding due to the many cameras present, I guess that is a hint to be taken. Whilst we don’t see reality television disappearing any time soon, the ratings on most of the American television shows speak for the decline of their popularity. Right from “American Idol”, which does in fact showcase talent to the otherwise devoid of it ones like “Keeping up with the Kardashians”. In fact, some comments on reality television celebrities are downright ghastly. Welcome back discretion and not washing your dirty linen in public. Time for a change in perceptions of talent, don’t you think?

DIY#LIFESTYLE# 5 INDIAN SPORTSWOMEN WHO MAKE US PROUD

LIFESTYLE: 5 INDIAN SPORTSWOMEN WHO MAKE US PROUD

Don’t we just love our sports women for being the firebrands they are? With some unbelievable titles and prestigious wins to their credit, these women have done us proud on several occasions. Here’s looking at who these powerful women are.

Sania Mirza
A list of the most celebrated sports women without our favourite Sania Mirza? So incomplete!  One of the most renowned players, Sania’s contribution to tennis remains unmatched. She was the first woman to have made it to the fourth round of the Grand Slam tournament in the US Open in 2005. She added yet another feather to her cap when she was conferred the nation’s highest sports award, the Arjuna Award. The girl continues her reign the tennis scene and recently even won her maiden Women’s Doubles Grand Slam with Martina Hingis at the 2015 Wimbledon. Now if that’s not an enviable feat, we don’t know what is!

Dipika Pallikal
The first Indian squash player to break into the top 10 WSA ranking, Dipika Pallikal is a force to be reckoned with in the squash scene. In 2012, the player even received the prestigious Arjuna Award – something that gave her motivation to do even better at her game. The girl went on to win her sixth WSA title when she won the Meadwood Pharmacy Open in February 2013. Only of 23, Deepika is undoubtedly one of the best players we have in the country today.

Mary Kom
One who started playing boxing on an international level at the age of 18, MC Mary Kom has done us proud several times. No wonder then that Bollywood made a biopic on her victories and struggles throughout her boxing career. Addressed fondly as Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian woman to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics where she won the bronze medal. It was in the Asian Games in 2014 in South Korea where she won our hearts yet again by winning a Gold Medal. Take a bow, girl!

Sonika Kaliraman
Standing tall at 6 feet, Sonika Kaliraman is one of the most renowned women wrestlers in India. Sonika, the daughter of former wrestler Chandgi Ram, was the only female wrestler to have represented India in the Asian Games in Doha in 2006. Talk about being a game changer!

Saina Nehwal
Currently No. 1 in the world by Badminton World Federation Women’s Singles 2015, Sania will always be one of the best badminton players of our country. After all, the girl is the first Indian to win a medal in badminton at the Olympics. In January 2009, she was conferred the Arjuna Award while in 2010, Saina was given the Padma Shri. Talk about being a performer!
