TRENDSPOTTING-BEAUTY AND FASHION MOMENTS FROM THE GOLDEN GLOBES

A wonderful new season is upon us and before you assume it is the chill of the winter; we’re actually referring to the award season where the stars descend on the red carpet in their shimmering best! Our eyes were glued to the tele last morning as we watched the Golden Globes awards; making a note of the movies we had to watch and of course, fashion and beauty trends we had to try straight off the red carpet! Here’s taking at the ones the trends and their wearers who caught our eye at the awards ceremony...<

Contrasting lip

Rather than matching their lips, which is a no-fail lip look, a few stars upped their game by opting for a lip colour that contrasted their ensembles and looked rather ravishing. Eva Green brightened her nude lace number with a tangerine lip while Jennifer Lopez stunned with a burgundy lip to chicly clash with her flowing mustard gown.

Side ‘do

Side is the new front, as proved by the lovely ladies of Hollywood who decided to ditch convention and play it old school. It was Kate Winslet and Regina King who opted for updos with structured waves that stole the show while sitting pretty on the sidelines.

Feline flick

Affirming its place as an eternal favorite; the feline flick, with all its demure charm was spotted on Hollywood’s most stylish. Katy Perry aced effortless chic with a simple swipe of eyeliner as did Zendaya who complimented her minimal makeup with a feline eyeliner flick.

Slicked back hair

Adding a flair of edginess to their ensembles caught our eye with sculpted slicked back hair. Jennifer Lawrence let her outfit do the talking with slicked back hair to add sophistication to the ensemble while Malin Akerman opted for a centre parted slicked hair look for a tidy, clean cut finish.

Capes

While they are already making waves in the winter, that hasn’t stopped them from making an appearance on the red carpet as well. Not one to be left behind, the cape trend was incorporated elegantly onto the outfits. Emilia Clarke wore the trend on her sleeve with exquisite sheer lace while Lily James brought out her shoulders with a cape draped at the back.

Sparkle

It wouldn’t be a red carpet without it, owing to which, the event saw its fair share ofsparkle. Taking a variety of forms, the appearance of sparkle made its presence felt. While Rosie Huntington-Whiteley chose a shimmery fringe on her gown, Jane Wu went for a metallic slew of panelled sequins. Jenna Dewan Tatum sparkled in an intricately designed gown and Carly Chaikin opted for an iridescent play with sequin portions.

Shades of yellow

A colour that we don’t ordinarily associate with red carpet chic, the pleasants tones of yellow had us all nodding in agreement. Lola Kirke donned a grecian-like mustard yellow gown with pleats while America Ferrera amazed us all in a high neck embellished gown in canary yellow.

Pockets

Talk about utility merged with fashion! Pockets found their way to their red carpet of the Golden Globes within the folds of gowns and dresses. Jaimie Alexander had hers in the sides of her geometric gown, Olivia Palermo added charm with pockets on her abstract printed dress while Gina Rodriguez  tucked her hands in hers, situated within the pleats of her dress.
