BRIDAL INSPIRATION FROM BAJIRAO MASTANI

As the end of the year draws nearer, there are many a thing that we forward to and one of them is the much-awaited blockbuster of 2015, Bajirao Mastani. The movie speaks of the story of Maratha warrior, Peshwa Bajirao I and his relationship with his two wives, Kashibai and Mastani. Besides the historical backdrop, we’re looking forward to seeing the screen light up with the two strong female protagonists portrayed by Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

There’s a lot to take home from their strong personas as well as from the supporting role that Indian ethnic fashion has played in this movie, which serves as the perfect dose of inspiration for the bridal season.

Jewellery

Both the characters, Mastani and Kashibai are replete with heavy traditional jewellery which includes heavy chandbali earrings and oversized naths (nose rings.) Layered gold and pearl necklaces adorn their necks, traditional green bangles are worn on their wrists and their waists are decked with gold waist chains. Not to be left behind, their hair wears golden hair pins along with heavy statement gold rings as well. The resplendent use of heavy gold jewellery serves as the right ground for inspiration at a traditional Indian wedding, portraying culture and tradition to the tee.

Clothing

Set against the period of the Maratha Empire, both Mastani and Kashibai don costumes of the era mainly Navvaris i.e. the 9 yard Maharashtrian style saree. Sticking to tones of violet and red, gold is not solely for the jewellery as it plays a prominent part of the costumes in terms of embroidery work, prints and borders. The rich vibrancy of jewel tones is a right choice to make during the bridal season season since it exudes the traditional culture of the wedded while staying sophisticated.

Beauty

Depicting an era when beauty was au natural, the makeup conveys just that. The faces of Mastani and Kashiba are groomed and tidy yet completely natural with a gentle glow over the cheeks. The standout feature of their makeup is their on-point brows, which are filled and defined to perfection. The lips are played down in a natural shade of mauve and we cannot ignore the delicate bindis finishing their look. Wedding season doesn’t necessarily mean a heavy makeup look and with inspiration from the demure subtlety of the actresses look, you can go into the bridal season looking divine.
